Time To Move

I wanted to write a blog post about some tips I’ve learned to make a move go smoother. {Tip #1}With one move, I packed a suitcase with a couple of outfits plus all the toiletries. {Tip #2}To save money, I have never felt the need to buy boxes. I ask clothing stores, groceries, the hardware store, and friends for unwanted boxes. I can usually get enough to pack up everything. {Tip #3} Plan ahead. You will need to have utilities turned on or at least want them turned on before you spend the night in your home for the first night. Some utility companies may not turn it on the same day you call them so it's in your best interest to have them turn it on the day before you are moving in if possible. {Tip #4} Make a list of important accounts you have and update the address with them. I have a notebook that I make a lot of notes in and I definitely used it for this. {Tip #5} Don’t pack up your paperware. You will want to use that for the first two or three meals in your new home. It is also handy to pull out if you have a meal for the moving help. {Tip #6} Think about easy to fix food to have on hand. I have done sandwiches with veggies and chips, pizza, fast food at Dairy Queen, hotdogs with mac and cheese. There is too much to do and think about besides stressing about a meal and what to feed people. {Tip #7} Give yourself some slack. Your whole home is packed up in boxes and everything is out of order. Try to take it in stride and use the opportunity to donate unused or unwanted items. I gag gifted some books to some good friends that I no longer wanted and made a bag for donations. Moving is a lot of work. I really dislike everything about it because I like to feel grounded and organized. Moving strips that part of me. I don’t know if my feelings towards the subject will get any easier but like moving, it may be a work in progress.
